Kris Aquino did as Kris Aquino often does and spoke about her life in public, releasing a 25-minute video on her social media platforms.

The video was shot on Friday, March 19, and released on Sunday, March 21. On Facebook, the video came with a caption implying that she knew of trolls and bloggers who were paid to attack her and her two sons.

She named various potential 2022 presidential candidates, saying she is “not against” them because “hindi sila ang pumondo sa trolls and bloggers para atakihin ako at ang mga anak ko (they weren’t the ones who funded trolls and bloggers to attack me and my sons).”

Among the potential candidates she named were Vice President Leni Robredo; senators Bong Go, Grace Poe, Manny Pacquiao, and Ping Lacson; former senator Antonio Trillanes IV; Manila Mayor Isko Moreno; and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

In the video itself, Kris addressed the various issues that have cropped up around her life in recent months, including her relationship with Herbert Bautista, the departure of her longtime employee Bincai Luntayao, and the rumors surrounding her two sons.

She also responded to a post by a pro-Duterte blogger, and spoke about the legacy of her mother, former president Cory Aquino, and the assassination of her father, Ninoy Aquino.

Here’s a summary of the things Kris said in her video:

Defending her sons

Kris once again responded to gossip about her sons, Josh, 25, and Bimby, 13. Josh, who was diagnosed with autism as a child, was rumored to have impregnated a girl. At the same time, Bimby was on the receiving end of homophobia when some people on the internet teased him for supposedly being gay.

“In just one week, OA sa pagka-malicious ang pag-target sa panganay at sa bunso ko. Naisip siguro kung mag-imbento tungkol sa panganay at tawaging bakla ‘yung bunso, titiklop na ‘yung nanay,” Kris said.

(In just one week, they maliciously targeted my eldest and my youngest. They probably thought that if they spin stories about the older son and call the younger son gay, the mother will be silenced.)

She explained that Josh “happens to be very happy in Tarlac,” the Aquinos’ home province, where he has been living since December.

“He is not there para mag-establish ako ng presence (for me to establish a presence) in the same province where my father and my brother started their public service journeys,” Kris clarified.

She also addressed the “bullying” of Bimby, saying: “Utang na loob naman (Please). This is 2021, we are living in 2021. Bimb is tall, he is good-looking, he is well-educated, he is intelligent…. He is articulate, respectful. Hindi siya palamura (He doesn’t swear). And he happens to be very mature.”

“Thirteen years old lang siya, nakakahiya man aminin, pero siya ang gumagawa ng lahat ng paraan para lang gumaan ‘yung mga problema ko at para mapaligaya niya ako (He’s only 13 years old, and it’s embarrassing to admit, but he’s the one who makes an effort to ease my problems and to make me happy),” she added, tearing up.

Her relationship with Herbert and moving out of Quezon City

Kris said that she and Herbert, who is a former mayor of Quezon City, tried to reconnect recently, but she had to ask permission from Bimby.

“To quote my son nung pinag-uusapan namin, sinabi niya (when we talked about it, he said), ‘I can see, Mama, how you look at him. You do not look at others the way you look at him. If he is your happiness, then he has my vote.'”

She said that she didn’t want the word “vote” to be misunderstood for her endorsing Herbert’s political career and that “whatever plans he has, they are his own.”

She added that she sold her house in Greenmeadows in Quezon City, and is just waiting to sign a lease contract to rent a condominium in a different city.

Kris first confirmed that she and Herbert were dating in 2014, though she said just a few weeks after that they were “not a couple but the best of friends.” She later said in a since-deleted Instagram post that she was considering moving to Tarlac permanently because she was “running away from love” after “7 years of emotional stress” exacerbated her autoimmune condition.

She spoke about her plans to move in the recent video, saying that she also considered moving to Boracay, but that her doctors advised her to stay where she could still be near them. Kris revealed in 2018 that she was diagnosed with chronic spontaneous urticaria, an autoimmune disease that causes hives, and in serious cases, can lead to anaphylaxis or a severe allergic reaction.

Where is Bincai?

Kris also responded to questions about the departure of Bincai, who worked as Josh’s nanny for years. Kris said she and Bincai took a 4-week break in February 2020 after they had a tiff.

She then asked Bincai to return under new ground rules, but Bincai chose not to. “It was her choice to turn me down, and she did. She walked away.”

She said that she understands how Bincai wants to marry and have a family of her own and not have the responsibility of taking care of Kris’ family 24/7. “But there’s absolutely no bad blood,” Kris said.

Revisiting her unforgettable 2003 interview

Kris also said she is no longer affected by people bringing up her infamous 2003 interview, where she admitted to having a sexually transmitted disease (STD) on national television.

In a 2003 interview with Korina Sanchez on TV Patrol, Kris confessed to getting an STD from her then-partner, Joey Marquez.

“You can use it against me if it was a skeleton I hid in my closet. But that happened 18 years ago,” she said. “Ako mismo ang nag-tell-all (I did the tell-all myself). I did that live on TV Patrol in my mother’s house. That is an iconic interview.”

“So how can you use something that I myself revealed about myself against me? ‘Yun ang advantage kasi (That is the advantage) of having lived an open-book life. Wala kang kinatatakutan na pwede pang maibulgar kasi lahat ng sinasabi nilang kahinaan mo o mga kasalanan mo, alam na ng lahat (You aren’t afraid that anything might come out because every weakness or sin they say you have is out there already),” she said.

Her TV comeback that never happened

Kris also implied that her TV comeback was halted for political reasons.

“Regardless that my life’s work, my chance to come back on free TV, that was taken away from me, because I was told, ‘Mahirap nang ma-offend ang Palasyo (The Palace might be offended),'” she said.

“I took that, kasi political reality ‘yan (that’s a political reality). Hindi ‘yan ginawa ng nanay ko, hindi ‘yan ginawa ng kapatid ko (my mother and brother never did that), but I know how this game is played,” she continued.

Kris belongs to a prominent political family. Her father Ninoy, a senator and vocal critic of dictator Ferdinand Marcos, was arrested, exiled to the United States, then assassinated in 1983 upon his return to the Philippines. Following his assassination, Ninoy’s wife and Kris’ mother Cory was elected president, ending Marcos’ two-decade rule.

Kris’s older brother Noynoy also served as president from 2010 to 2016, and was succeeded by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Kris’ agenda – or lack thereof

Kris said she tries to honor her parents’ legacy by continuing to hope for the best for the Philippines.

She read her father’s often-quoted line “The Filipino is worth dying for,” adding that, “with everything that has happened, I still continue to pray for the current administration, for this government that is ruling us right now,” because their downfall will be the downfall of all Filipinos.

“Maling oras ito for political divisiveness (This is the wrong time for political divisiveness),” she said, noting that many people have died, and millions have lost their jobs and are going hungry in the middle of the pandemic.

Kris said that when she tried to help, many people misinterpreted it, but she clarified that she doesn’t have an agenda.

“Mas lalong hindi po ako kagaya ng iba kasi ako po, nagbibigay galing sa bulsa ko. Nagbabayad po ako ng tamang buwis. Wala po akong history na nagnakaw ako sa taongbayan (I’m certainly not like others, because I give out of my own pocket. I pay the correct taxes. I don’t have a history of stealing from public funds),” she said.

Political affiliations

Kris addressed supporters of Duterte, saying that there’s no reason for them to bash her. She named members of Duterte’s Cabinet that she is close to, particularly Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III and Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.

“Who actually benefits by erasing the legacy of my parents? Sino ang nagtanggal ng freedom of speech sa Pilipinas? Sino ang nagpakulong at nagpapatay kay Ninoy Aquino? (Who took away freedom of speech in the Philippines? Who imprisoned and ordered the assassination of Ninoy Aquino)?” she said.

“I have no party affiliation. Pero alam ko kung sino ang napatalsik at gustong gusto kaming gantihan dahil kulang para sa kanila na pinapatay na nila ang dad ko (But I know who was ousted and who wants to get revenge on us because it isn’t enough that they had my dad killed),” she continued.

“That is not President Duterte, because alam ko never ko siyang binanatan. So para po sa mga DDS, wala tayong reason na maging magkaaway (I know I never criticized him, so to the DDS, there’s no reason for us to be enemies).”

To quote from Taylor Swift…

Kris ended her video by stressing that she will continue to defend herself.

Without specifying anyone, she said, “I will emphasize, I am not here to attack, but you leave me no choice but to defend.”

She then read a portion of Taylor Swift’s song “mad woman,” and ended the video with a mantra often chanted by activists at political demonstrations: “Tama na, sobra na, lalaban na.” (That’s enough, I will fight.) – Rappler.com
