ASEAN HEADLINES: BRUNEI DARUSSALAM- First-dose inoculations for public halted

Starting today, all vaccination centres across the country will halt first-dose inoculations for the public, including those going abroad, with the exception of certain beneficiaries.

The announcement was made yesterday by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, adding that, “the postponement is due to the rapid and unexpected reduction in the supply of COVID-19 vaccine.

“The Ministry of Health (MoH) is currently working to get a supply of vaccines right away, as the administration of COVID-19 vaccines to the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam is a priority.

All first dose vaccine appointments postponed until further notice

Due to a vaccine shortage, the Minister of Health informed that starting tomorrow, Wednesday, 1 September 2021 until a date that will be announced later, all vaccinations centres nationwide will not be able to provide the COVID-19 vaccination services to anyone who have booked for the first dose.

“This postponement is due to the supply of COVID-19 vaccine that has been reduced rapidly and unexpectedly. The Ministry of Health is currently working to get the supply of vaccines as soon as possible as the provision of the COVID-19 vaccine for the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam is a priority and therefore, the Ministry regrets any inconvenience that may arise as a result of this matter,” he added.

The health minister also informed that the elderly, differently-abled, and pregnant women can still get the first dose injections from any vaccination centres on a walk-in basis. However, supplies are limited.

Meanwhile, the provision of vaccine injections will continue for those who have booked for the second dose and the health minister said that the supply of vaccines for those who need the second dose are adequate.

He assured that members of the public who have already booked for the first dose will be re-scheduled to get a new booking slot when the new vaccine supply arrives.

1 death, 71 new COVID cases today

Brunei records another death from COVID-19

Brunei Darussalam today recorded its 9th death from COVID-19, an 80-year-old man that was confirmed positive on 22 August 2021. He suffered from lung infection after being infected with COVID-19, according to the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Hj Md Isham bin Hj Jaafar at a press conference.


71 new COVID cases in Brunei today

71 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 2,712.

There are 24 additional new cases to 9 of the existing active clusters. The cases in these active clusters are individuals who are currently being quarantined and were found to be in contact with several confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, 47 cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

130 cases have recovered today, where this total includes 51 positive cases from Category 1 that have undergone self-isolation for 14 days at their respective homes. All of them have undergone second swab tests at Day 12 and have been confirmed recovered. With that, the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam has increased to 966 cases.

The total number active cases are 1,734 cases.

Among the active cases, 8 cases are in critical condition, where 7 cases require assistance of artificial ventilation. Meanwhile, one case still requires the help of an additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, 28 cases that were categorised in Category 4 are now admitted at the Intensive Care Unit for close monitoring.
