JERSEY CITY, New Jersey – Fil-Ams from around the East Coast trooped to this city Dec. 12, to joined the much-anticipated Pink Caravan For Leni, in support of the Philippine vice president’s bid for the presidency.

Over 250 Pinoys rode in more than 100 cars decorated with pink Leni-Kiko posters, and drove along West Side Ave. where many Filipinos live. The cars were escorted by the Jersey City Police. Aside from local attendees, caravan participants came from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

Dr. Tricia Robredo, daughter of VP Robredo, who is in medical training in New York, attended the morning program. She said that her mother’s fight is the fight of every Filipino inside and outside of the Philippines.

There was group picture taking and a brief program before the caravan and another program and group photo after the motorcade.

During the program after the caravan, Loida Nicolas Lewis, Jersey City Fil-Am Councilman Rolando Lavarro, Jr. and Hudson County Commissioner Bill O’Dea expressed support and encouraged the participants many of whom brought food, including the emblematic “lugaw ni Leni” rice porridge.
