2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers | NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson slated to join Gilas Pilipinas
Jordan Clarkson slated to join Gilas for the fourth window of FIBA World Cup qualifiers
Scores of Filipino basketball fans got some much-needed good news after Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes relayed that one-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson will be joining the team for the fourth window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers next month.
Fresh off an 82-101 loss to Japan on Tuesday that ended the country’s hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals of the FIBA Asia Cup in Jakarta, Reyes revealed on PlayItRightTV that Clarkson would be coming to the Philippines next month.

“We also have word that Jordan Clarkson is coming. Hoping to join the team as well to play on the 25th and the 29th. Hopefully Kai Sotto can make it this time,” said Reyes.
Reyes, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and the Gilas are all under pressure to turn things around after winning just one of their four games in the continental meet and ending up with their worst finish in the tournament in the last 15 years.
The presence of Clarkson and 7-foot-3 big man Kai Sotto will certainly help reinvigorate a Gilas squad that is currently being manned by lots of young players headed by Cebuano Carl Tamayo, guards SJ Belangel and RJ Abarrientos, and the high-flying Rhenz Abando.

Reyes is also hopeful several PBA players can join their fold as the PBA Philippine Cup will be winding down by that time.
“We will have some PBA players available because the PBA players will then be in the semifinals or approaching the finals already so there will be already some players available. Very thankful for the PBA for allowing us, lending us those players,” said Reyes.
