Meanwhile, the second high-level conference is to be hosted in September 2023 in Jakarta.

On Friday, March 31, 2023 at Jakarta, Ismail the ministry’s post and informatics management director general, said that one of the ministry’s missions is to provide telecommunications networks and internet access to “ensure the 2023 ASEAN chairmanship runs smoothly”.

Ismail said the directorate general was also supporting the 2023 ASEAN Summit with a digital infrastructure network for high-quality communication to ensure its success.

“As regards the 2023 ASEAN Summit [meetings] in May 2023, Kominfo has ensured a credible infrastructure of telecommunications networks in the vicinity of Labuan Bajo. Ranging from an FO [fiber optic] network of 3,773.73 kilometers and ODPs [optical distribution points] deployed at 2,055 locations, it is also supplemented by 1,635 4G BTS and three 5G BTS,” he elaboraged.

To fulfill its commitment to providing high-quality communication as part of its contribution to this year’s Indonesian chairmanship, themed “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth”, the ministry will also continue to monitor the quality of local cellular networks.

Furthermore, Indonesian telecommunications providers have embraced their preparations in support of the summit. In particular, state-owned Telkom Group has expanded its services for the regional event by providing its Compact Mobile (Combat) BTS units and installing upgrades to its existing services in Golo Mori village and Labuan Bajo.

Ismail also expressed his optimism that, while the BTS upgrades to date were still at a completion rate of 44.7 percent, he was certain that the project would be finished by April in time for the first high-level conference in early May.
