Seknas Jokowi, a group of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo supporters, pledged its support for popular Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, and Jokowi’s fellow member in the largest party in the ruling coalition, for a presidential run in 2024.

This came following a Friday announcement by the largest party in the ruling coalition, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), matriarch Megawati Soekarnoputri, to name Ganjar as its presidential candidate for 2024. Megawati at the time was accompanied by Jokowi along with Megawati’s children: House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani, who heads the party’s executive board, and party’s head of situation analysis and control center Prananda Prabowo.

“We fully support its decision [to support Ganjar in 2024],” Seknas Jokowi chair Rambun Tjajo said in a press release on Friday, adding leadership of the supporter group immediately held a virtual meeting to respond to Ganjar’s endorsement./  News Desk (The Jakarta Post)

Gerindra Party chief and its presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto has opened the possibility of working together with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) for the upcoming presidential race after the ruling party named Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo as its presidential candidate.

“We will see. All possibilities can [happen]. What is important in politics is that we seek the good for the nation and the people,” Prabowo told reporters on Saturday after performing Idul Fitri prayers at the Al Azhar Grand Mosque in South Jakarta, as quoted by kompas.com.

Prabowo, who lost to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the last two presidential elections, is reportedly among the presidential hopefuls whom Jokowi considered to endorse as his potential successor, and has made a substantial electoral gain following a series of high-profile meetings with other political elites./ Yerica Lai (The Jakarta Post)

A day after the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) announced the nomination of Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo for the 2024 presidential run, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo received visiting Gerindra Party presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto in his home in Surakarta, Central Java, on Saturday, during Idul Fitri.

“As per tradition [in Indonesia], it’s customary for an underling to pay respects to their leader during Idul Fitri,” Prabowo, who also serves as the defense minister in Jokowi’s Cabinet, said after the meeting. “As it’s Idul Fitri, we didn’t have any political conversation whatsoever.”

Responding to questions from reporters, however, the Gerindra chairman downplayed the possibility of him being paired with Ganjar, saying Gerindra already named him as its presidential candidate and claiming, “Gerindra is in a strong position right now”. But he also maintained the situation was still fluid./  Fikri Harish (The Jakarta Post)
