National Election 2023 | PHNOM PENH-15 international observers from ASEAN countries to observe Cambodian election

Som Soreida, Deputy Secretary General and Spokesperson of the NEC, told local news on July 14, that a total of more than 88,000 national observers from 121 institutions will participate in monitoring the election and counting of the ballots in the process of the 7th National Assembly election in 2023.

The National Election Committee (NEC) has recognized 15 international observers from ASEAN countries to observe the 7th National Assembly election on July 23, 2023.

He said that out of more than 88,000 observers, 15 were from ASEAN countries, including 2 East Timor, 1 Singapore, 2 Myanmar, 5 Vietnam, 1 Indonesia and four other ASEAN member countries.

Soreida stated that in addition to the observers, there were also special guests that the NEC has invited, including seven people from three countries, including France, Japan, and Russia to observe the July 23 election while the NEC is waiting to receive more special guests.

He said that national and international observers who did not have time to apply for registration as observers were still being examined by the NEC.

The application deadline for registration as an international observer started on April 1, 2023 and ends on July 19, 2023.
