Former Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin has been named China’s ambassador-designate to Cambodia, with Cambodian officials expressing confidence that he will further strengthen bilateral relations.

Wang’s new post was confirmed by the China International Development Cooperation Agency after he met with agency head Luo Zhaohui on Tuesday, reported the China Daily.

Wang served as the 32nd spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry from July 2020 to May this year.

The 53-year-old has served in diplomatic missions for over 30 years, mainly engaged in the area of policy planning and affairs with African countries.

He had previously worked as Chinese ambassador to Tunisia.

Wang was born in Anhui, China in April 1971. He attended Nanjing Jinling High School. In 1989 he entered the China Foreign Affairs University, where he majored in French language.

After graduation, he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served in various diplomatic positions including deputy director and director of the Policy Research Office, political counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Mauritius, counsellor of the Department of Policy Planning, and deputy director of the Department of Policy Planning.

He was designated to replace Bian Yanhua as Ambassador to Tunisia by 13th Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in May 2018.

Airstrikes carried out by Myanmar’s military killed three women and two children and injured more than a dozen others in Magway Region’s Myaing Township on Monday, according to local sources.

The attack, targeting the village of Kan Myint Kone, took place at around 9:30am and was followed by a barrage of heavy artillery, the sources said.

Four of the deceased—the three women and a five-year-old boy—were killed instantly, while a 13-year-old girl died later of her injuries, a villager involved in the rescue effort told Myanmar Now.

“Their bodies were almost entirely ripped apart by powerful bombs. Only the body of a woman in her 60s was recognisable,” he said, describing the condition of the first four victims.

The girl who was later reported dead was among at least 14 people, including five children, who sustained serious injuries. Three were said. . .

SINGAPORE – Singapore is deepening its economic ties with the United States with the launch of a new artificial intelligence (AI) programme to groom talent.

The new AI Talent Bridge programme is expected to deepen collaboration between the US and Singapore on critical emerging technology, including AI, with an emphasis on supporting youth, women, and future leaders in tech, said the US Department of Commerce (DOC) and the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) in a statement.

It will build on the existing US-Singapore Women in Tech Partnership Programme, which was launched in 2022 and features networking and mentoring sessions, workshops as well as other activities to facilitate partnerships among companies in the two countries. But details of the programme are scarce for now.
