And now, the wait is over.
Eventual Finals Most Valuable Player Jalen Brunson scored 45 points in the game on 14-of-27 shooting, in one of the finest performances in a clincher in NBA history. He also had three assists, three rebounds and two steals.
With the Knicks leading by two, 92-90, with 8.8 seconds remaining, Mikal Bridges was sent to the free throw line. He missed the first and made the second to give the visitors a 93-90 breathing room.
New York then turned the ballgame to a free throw contest as rookie Dylan Harper was sent to the line. The guard, however, missed both of his free throws as OG Anunoby was later hacked.
And with 7.7 seconds remaining, Anunoby iced the game with a miss on his first free throw and a make in the second to set the final score.

‘I wasn’t ready to win’: Wembanyama rues mistakes in NBA Finals defeat

And on the other end, San Antonio went to Victor Wembanyama to try and close the gap, but his attempt from 3-point territory hit all board. And, with Anunoby grabbing the rebound, he hoisted it to the other side of the court as the decades-long wait ended.
Bridges added 14 points in the win, while Josh Hart chipped in 13 markers and 11 boards. Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns struggled with foul trouble, with the former finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds and the latter having just two points before fouling out after 22 minutes of play.
Harper carried the load for the Spurs with 25 points off the bench. Wembanyama backstopped with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
New York now has three NBA championships.
