MANILA, Philippines — Amid rumors that she could be the next secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Sen. Grace Poe expressed confidence that whoever President Marcos appoints to the position will be the best candidate.
“I haven’t had any discussions with the President about it, but I’m sure he’s considering the best individuals for the role,” Poe told The STAR.
Poe is on her second and last term as a senator, previously serving as chairperson of the Senate committee on public information and mass media and later the Senate committee on public services.
As public information and mass media committee chair, she championed the passage of the Freedom of Information Act, which was approved on third reading by the Senate in March 2014.

The daughter of Filipino film icons Fernando Poe Jr. and Susan Roces, Poe also filed a bill promoting film tourism, which aims to turn the Philippines into a major shooting destination for international films.
Before becoming a senator, she chaired the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).
Meanwhile, a senior member of the House committee on information and communications technology has urged President Marcos to safeguard the achievements of the outgoing DICT leadership as he selects its next chief.
Nueva Ecija 3rd district Rep. Ria Vergara cited the eGovPH super app as among IT initiatives that must be sustained under new agency leadership.

The eGovPH super app was launched in 2023 by the DICT’s e-Government Group, led by Undersecretary David Almirol.
“The launch of the eGovPH super app marked a significant step forward in modernizing government services, offering paperless, efficient and convenient way for Filipinos to access essential services,” Vergara said in a statement. — Jose Rodel Clapano
