Hundreds of thousands of people are taking part in March for Our Lives demonstrations around the world on Saturday to call for an end to gun violence. The protests were sparked by a string of deadly school shootings, including the massacre in Parkland, Fla., last month. Organizers say they expect nearly a million in Washington, D.C., alone. Lindsay Walters, the deputy press secretary, issued the following statement about today’s marches:“We applaud the many courageous young Americans exercising their First Amendment rights today. Keeping our children safe is a top priority of the President’s, which is why he urged Congress to pass the Fix NICS and STOP School Violence Acts, and signed them into law. Additionally, on Friday, the Department of Justice issued the rule to ban bump stocks following through on the President’s commitment to ban devices that turn legal weapons into illegal machine guns.”President Trump, who is spending the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., is currently at the Trump International golf course, per the traveling press pool. No word on whether he is playing golf. -
