HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng has assured Liu Yunshan, Politburo Standing Committee member and Secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, that Việt Nam attaches importance to ties with China.
During a reception in Hà Nội yesterday, the Party leader expressed his wish that Việt Nam – China relations would grow for the interests of the two countries’ peoples and for peace and development in the region and world.
Hailing the developments in ties between the two parties and countries over the years, he underscored the significance of exchanging theory and experience in socio-economic development, party building and personnel training.
He wished that the CPC led by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping would hold a successful 19th National Congress, which is slated for October this year.
Liu, who is visting Việt Nam for two days, from September 18 to 19, expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Việt Nam (CPV), headed by General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng, the Vietnamese people would continue reaping greater successes in national reform and building socialism.
He affirmed that the party and state of China attached importance to developing the traditional friendship between the two parties and countries.
The guest wished to work closely with Việt Nam to prepare for the Party General Secretary and President’s official visit to Việt Nam and his attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November, the first foreign trip to be made by the Chinese leader following the 19th CPC National Congress.
The same day, Politburo member Trần Quốc Vượng, Secretary of the CPV Central Committee and head of the Committee’s Inspection Commission held talks with the Chinese guest.
The two sides discussed measures to fully implement common agreements between leaders of the two Parties and countries, contributing to strengthening political trust and friendship, improving the efficiency of practical collaboration in diverse areas, maintaining peace and security, and properly settling the East Sea issue. — VNS

HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese Vi Thị Hằng won a gold medal and set a new record at the ninth ASEAN ParaGames Monday morning in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Hằng topped the women’s S7 100m freestyle event with a time of 1min 23.99sec, beating the previous record of 1:36.11.
The silver and bronze went to Hatsady Boulaphane of Laos and Pattra Krangphanit from Thailand, respectively.
Her teammates secured three gold, five silver and two bronze medals.
Defending champion Võ Huỳnh Anh Khoa retained No 1 position in the men’s S9 100m freestyle with a time of 1:02.19. He left his nearest rivals Ahmad Azwari of Malaysia and Anurak Srinarong of Thailand far behind in the pool.
Hà Văn Hiệp, meanwhile, came from behind to dominate the men’s SB3 50m breaststroke. He won with a time of 1:01.83.
Anderson Anak Jamba of the host nation and Charkorn Kaewsri of Thailand, who took the lead in the first few metres, came second and third.
Việt Nam dominated the men’s SB4 50m breaststroke, winning first and second places.
Reigning champion Nguyễn Thành Trung did not have a good start, falling behind his teammate Danh Hòa for three-fourth of the race. However, the Asian champion made a perfect sprint in the final metres to defend his title, bagging the fourth gold for Việt Nam, timing 49.53sec.
Hòa placed second just 0.68sec behind. Ye Tun of Myanmar who swam very close behind Trung was third.
Đỗ Thanh Hải won Việt Nam’s first silver in the men’s S6 100m freestyle with a time of 1:24.25.
He was behind Aung Myint Myat of Myanmar who swam 1:15.84.
Lê Thị Trâm earned her silver in the women’s S10 100m freestyle. Nguyễn Quang Vượng was second in the men’s SB8 50m breaststroke. The fifth silver went to the 4x100m freestyle relay quartet.
Lê Tiến Đạt finished third in the men’s S7 100m freestyle, timing 1:18.12.
Lê Thị Dung came third in the women’s S9 100m freestyle.
The athletes will compete in the athletics and power-lifting events this afternoon.
Currently, Indonesia top the medals tally with 11 gold medals. Malaysia are second with seven medals, while Việt Nam are third with four medals. All Indonesia and Việt Nam’s gold medals are from swimming, while Malaysia bagged titles in cycling.
S6,7,9, SB3, 4, 8 are disability swimming classifications used for categorising swimmers based on their level of disability.— VNS
