Brunei had +0 new cases, has a total of 172 with 3 deaths.
No new COVID-19 cases reported in Brunei

Brunei Darussalam recorded no new COVID-19 cases yesterday, maintaining the national tally of confirmed number of infections at 172. Twenty active cases are receiving treatment at the National Isolation Centre (NIC) in the Tutong District.
The latest developments on coronavirus in the country were shared by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, the MoH took 160 samples for SARS-CoV-2 testing in the past 24 hours and carried out 84,080 tests since January 2020.
There have been 31 imported cases since the last local case was reported 244 days ago, while 590 individuals are undergoing mandatory self-isolation at government monitoring centres after arriving from abroad while 10,568 completed self-isolation since March 2020.

Cambodia’s migrant workers COVID-19 cluster increases to 18, total tally now 383
Cambodia’s COVID-19 positive cases have moved to another level with the latest cluster identified as the returning migrant workers clusters at the Cambodia-Thai border.

The Health Ministry announced this morning that one more migrant worker fleeing Thailand because of a surge in the number of positive cases there, has been tested positive for COVID-19 in Palin.
The patient is a 28-year-old male from Pailin Province who returned to the province from Thailand on 2 January, 2021. He is being treated in Pailin hospital.
The tally thus increased to 383, including 261 Cambodians, 45 French, 18 Chinese, 13 Malaysians, 12 Americans, 10 Indonesians, 6 British, 3 Vietnamese, 3 Canadians, 3 Indians, 2 Hungarians, 2 Pakistanis, 1 Belgian, 1 Kazakhstani, 1 Polish, 1 Jordanian, and 1 Japanese.
Of them, 362 have been so far cured successfully with no recorded fatalilities case, while the active cases rose to 21, among whom are 19 women. They have been hospitalised at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital and the National Centre for Combating Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control in Phnom Penh, and Battambang and Pailin Provincial Referral Hospitals. Indonesia’s mass vaccinations to begin on January 13
JAKARTA (CNA) – Indonesia will begin its nationwide COVID-19 mass vaccination programme on January 13, the country’s health minister said yesterday, as the world’s fourth most populous country battles the worst coronavirus outbreak in Southeast Asia.
The programme will launch in Jakarta, with President Joko Widodo set to be given the first shot, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said in a statement, while vaccinations in other regions will start in the following two days.
The government has previously said 1.3 million frontline workers are due to be among the first to receive the vaccines made by China’s Sinovac Biotech. Indonesia has received three million doses of the Sinovac vaccine, named CoronaVac .
After health workers had been inoculated, regional governors should come forward to be given the vaccine “to generate confidence in the community,” said Budi.
The announcement comes before the country’s food and drug agency (BPOM) has given emergency use approval to allow inoculations to start.
BPOM did not respond to a request for comment, though the agency has previously said it hoped emergency use authorisation would be granted once interim data from clinical trials in Indonesia, Brazil and Turkey was studied. Sinovac, along with Indonesia’s state-owned drugmaker Bio Farma, is overseeing late-stage clinical trials in the province of West Java.
Early results from CoronaVac late-stage trials showed it was 91.25 per cent effective, while researchers in Brazil have said it was more than 50 per cent effective, though full results were yet to be released at the company’s request.
Health Minister Budi said previously that Indonesia must inoculate 181.5 million people, or roughly 67 per cent of the population, to reach herd immunity.

.Tests, treatment for coronavirus free for general public: authorities
Tests for Covid-19 and treatment for people who have contracted the virus are free for the general public but charges will be made for people engaged in certain areas of business.
“Charges will be imposed on businesspeople and foreign nationals in Laos who are here for work purposes,” Deputy Minister of Health, Associate Prof. Dr Phouthone Muongpak, told a press conference on Tuesday.

He stressed that ordinary Lao citizens such as Lao workers returning from foreign countries did not have to pay for tests and treatment.
“No payment is required, even during the 14-day quarantine period. People who test positive also do not need to pay anything for their tests and treatment,” Dr Phouthone reiterated.
The deputy minister was responding to questions by reporters, as some people are uncertain about the payment categories.
The Ministry of Health recently issued a decision on payments after the government allocated a budget for the purchase of test equipment to supplement that provided by friendly countries and international organisations.
The charges vary depending upon which category individuals fall into.
Lao and foreign nationals (who want to cross a border and have a test) are required to pay 1.2 million kip for each test. This charge also applies to foreign diplomats, staff working for international organisations, Lao and foreign business operators and tourists, foreign workers, and people of any nationality who want a test for personal reasons.
Lao workers leaving the country are also required to pay 1.2 million kip to be screened for Covid-19.
A lower rate of 50,000 kip applies to Lao nationals crossing international and local borders because of illness or emergency medical needs. Official delegations travelling abroad, and students, also fall into this category.
Guests of the Party and State are not required to pay for Covid-19 tests.
Tests to trace people who may have the virus, such as those who have been in close contact with infected persons, are also free, the decision states.
The charges will cover the basic cost of tests and treatment, according to Dr Phouthone, who is Deputy Head of the National Taskforce for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.
His clarification eases the concerns of low-income Lao workers in foreign countries who return to Laos and those under quarantine in centres across the country.
Every day, Lao nationals employed in foreign countries cross the border to return home, according to a report from the taskforce.
On January 5, as many as 2,000 people crossed borders into Laos including 135 Lao workers returning from Thailand.
Currently, 2,246 people are accommodated in 31 quarantine centres. They have been tested for Covid-19 but all the tests were negative.
A total of 41 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Laos, with one person still under observation in a Vientiane hospital. No one is known to have died from the virus.
Worldwide, more than 86.7 million people have contracted the virus including more than 1.8 million people who have died.

Health Ministry to review strategy to contain resurgence in Covid-19 infections
PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry (MoH) is considering a new strategy to present to the National Security Council (MKN) to control the rise in Covid-19 cases, which has been rising steadily daily.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the strategies under consideration include implementing different targetted approaches between red and green states and to tighten interstate border controls.
“For red states, more drastic measures need to be carried out and more targetted approaches based on clusters in the states involved.
“We also will tighten border controls by stopping those crossing district and state lines.
“We need a circuit breaker to control, to bring down the cases from 2,000 to maybe down to 200 before we can manage the whole situation better,“ he said during a media conference regarding Covid-19 developments here today.
Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry was studying the model used by Sarawak to control the spread of Covid-19 in the state, including conducting mandatory swab tests and imposing quarantine on those who have returned home before allowing them to mingle with the local community.
“Our strategy would be changed, we are more localising and targeting in terms of implementation, rather than the whole nation’s approach.
“Discussion is ongoing, the ministry will advise but we believe in the government’s ‘wisdom’ to make a right decision,“ he said adding that the ministry expects daily cases would increase in one to two weeks, especially after New Year’s Eve.
He said although actions taken since Oct 14 have stopped a drastic rise in cases, they were not successful in reducing infectivity, which still remains at R0 1.1 to R0 0.5.
In addition, Dr Noor Hisham said the ministry was considering to place asymptomatic positive cases and mild cases at quarantine centres currently used by travellers returning from abroad, while foreign workers will be treated at low-risk Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres.
When asked about the risk of Covid-19 spreading at flood relief centres in the states of Selangor, Perak, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor, Dr Noor Hisham said currently there was no new cluster detected while Patients Under Surveillance (PUS) and Persons Under Investigation (PUI) were not those affected by the floods. — Bernama
