A man who molested his maid four times within nine days into her employment pleaded guilty to the offences on Tuesday (5 June).

Francis Lim Boon Liang admitted to two charges of molesting the maid, who cannot be named to protect her identity, in the State Courts. Two other similar charges against Lim, a 49-year-old sales manager, would be taken into consideration for sentencing.

The maid, then 24, began working for Lim on 24 November 2016.

The first offence proceeded against Lim happened at night sometime between 24 November and 30 November. The father of two children had approached the maid in the kitchen after he finished showering.

Lim, who was wearing only a pair of shorts, asked the maid to kiss him and she refused. He lifted one side of his shorts and exposed his genitals. He then asked her to kiss his genitals.

When the maid refused again, he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her head towards his crotch until her lips came into contact with his genitals.

The victim was “angry, helpless, and embarrassed” but did not make a police report as she did not want to cause any trouble between Lim and his wife, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Nicholas Lai said.

On 3 December, Lim was at his mother’s house when he again molested the maid. He slipped his right hand into her her bra to touch her breasts and also forced her to touch his genitals.

The following night, the maid ran out of the house to escape her ordeal while Lim’s mother was asleep. She took a taxi to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) services centre in Bendemeer Road, which was closed. She slept at a bus stop nearby until the next morning when the office opened. The police were then called by MOM.

Lim is expected to be sentenced on 13 July. He faces up to two years’ jail, or fine, or caning, or any combination of the three punishments.
