JAKARTA: The Indonesian media is impressed with the caring attitude of Malaysian citizens in helping their government towards settling the country’s debts and called on Indonesians to follow the example .

The Malaysian government’s efforts to set up ‘Tabung Harapan Malaysia’ should be an inspiration for Indonesian nationals to show their love for their country by helping their government overcome difficulties faced, they said.

A MetroTV report today commented on the inspirational response of Malaysians in the crowdfunding initiative to help the country pay its debts.

“Malaysians believe that for whatever amount contributed, they have played their part in helping their country. This also is a way for them to express their love for the nation,” the special news report added.

The Indonesian online media also expressed their admiration on RM27 million raised since it was set up on May 31 and commended the administration of the government led by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for measures taken to reduce the country’s financial burden.

Indonesian BBC news said: “Malaysians work together to help to pay country’s debts”, thus, the Indonesian media urged its people and the Indonesian government to take up the same initiative. As of February, the country had debts reaching US$356.2 billion, which is a far larger amount than the US$251 billion (RM1 trillion) debt faced by Malaysia.” — BERNAMA
