381 new cases in the past 24 hours

BRUNEI  (Covid-19)

Brunei today records a new daily high in COVID-19 cases since the pandemic first struck in the country, with 381 new cases added in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 8,980.

Meanwhile, another COVID-19 positive patient, a man aged 40 also died today, and the cause death is still under investigation, according to the Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Md Isham bin Hj Jaafar at a press conference.

Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Md Isham bin Hj Jaafar and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Hj Maswadi bin Hj Mohsin at the press conference held at the Ministry of Health building. 

In the daily COVID-19 situation update, the health minister said there are 195 additional new cases to 25 of the existing active clusters who are close contacts with several positive cases.

Five new clusters have been detected, with 60 cases. All of the new clusters are
accommodation clusters where one of it, namely Destiny Jaya Sdn Bhd Cluster is a worker dormitory.

One cluster has been closed following no new detected cases in the cluster for 28 days. The closed cluster is 2839 Cluster. Therefore, the current total active clusters are 160 clusters.

Meanwhile, 126 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.

322 cases have recovered today, bringing the total number of recovered cases in Brunei Darussalam to 6,690 cases, whereas the total number active cases are 2,226 cases.

Among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, eight cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the Intensive Care Unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with three cases requiring the help of additional heart/lung machine (ECMO). Meanwhile, 30 cases are categorised in Category 4 that require oxygen assistance and are under close monitoring.
