Asean member states are expected to step up cooperation with dialogue partners in several areas, including trade, investment, science and technology, tourism, connectivity and education.

Laos’ Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, was among those who attended the Asean ministerial conference with dialogue partners, including Australia, India, the US, Japan, China, South Korea, the EU, the UK and Russia, in Jakarta, Indonesia, last week.

The Asean-India ministerial meeting encouraged the implementation of several connectivity projects, such as the India-Myanmar-Thailand tripartite highway, and the expansion of the road to connect to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam as soon as possible.

The Asean+3 meeting appreciated the results of the cooperation framework between Asean and Japan, China and South Korea as an important regional platform to deal with various challenges such as epidemics, financial crises and food security.

In addition, the meeting’s participants agreed to cooperate in expanding the use of electric cars in the region.

The Asean-Australia meeting noted the developments under Asean-Australia Dialogue Relations and discussed ways to take the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership forward.

While discussing the international and regional situation, representatives of Asean countries and dialogue partners emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and creating favourable conditions for inclusive growth and sustainable development.

At the Asean-EU meeting, the leaders  agreed to strengthen their collaboration in areas related to trade, investment, connectivity, people-to-people exchanges, environment and climate change.

The Asean-UK leaders agreed to further enhance their cooperation in infrastructure development, economic, connectivity, education and people-to-people exchange.

At the Asean-Rusia meeting, the leaders agreed to cooperate in priority areas including trade, investment, science and technology, tourism and education.
